Press Release Summary = A Salt Lake company has received approval from the USDA to manufacture powdered eggs. During the application process company officials learned that other firms operate illegally without USDA approval and may be a threat to public health.
Press Release Body = Salt Lake City, Utah - Blue Chip Group, Inc. has just been approved by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to manufacture powdered, or dry eggs, but during the application process learned that other firms, including some in Utah, produce powdered eggs without federal approval.
Blue Chip Group, Inc. is the only company west of the Mississippi that has been approved by the USDA and has a USDA inspector present at all times while powdered eggs are being produced, according to Jeff Augason, of Blue Chip Group, Inc.
The potential for salmonella and other forms of food poisoning from powdered eggs is high, if those eggs are not produced under extremely high standards. Unless powdered eggs are tested before being sold to consumers there is no way to know if the eggs are contaminated, explained Augason.
"We want to comply with federal law to insure that our customers are protected from contaminated eggs. We invested in over six months of construction and government red tape to create a powdered egg production facility that is of the highest possible quality," said Augason.
During the application process, officials from Blue Chip Group, Inc. became aware that other companies in Utah are manufacturing powdered eggs without USDA certification or approval. Augason said the USDA has only recently become aware of the situation, and he expects the government will soon take action to protect the public health.
"It is very easy for powdered eggs to become contaminated, and the result could be a lot of sick people," said Augason.
